Q: What types of medication do I have to take?

A: All studies involve taking medication. In most cases the medications involved are experimental (not approved by the FDA).

Q: Do I have to stay overnight?

A: Most studies require overnight stays at BCRC.

Q: What should I bring to BCRC when checking in?

A: Scrubs will be provided for your use during your stay. If you don't want to wear scrubs, bring loose, comfortable clothes to wear. Personal care items and toiletries are not provided. You should bring soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, etc for your personal use. Towels and linen are provided. Bring a pillow since pillows are not provided!

Q: Can I bring food with me when checking in?

N: No, do not bring any food or beverage. All food and beverage will be provided by our staff at times dictated by the study. BCRC reserves the right to check your baggage.

Q: Can I bring electronic devices to BCRC?

A: Yes, you may bring cell phones, CD players, laptops, etc with you. Use of these devices may be restricted at certain times during the study. Bring HEADPHONES since they are needed to listen to the televisions. BCRC is not responsible for the security of your personal items.

Q: Are lockers available to secure personal items.

A: Yes, small lockers are available but you need to bring your own lock.

Q: How much do I get paid?

A: Payment varies based on the time commitment. The length of a study can range from a few days to months. Thus, payments may range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.

Q: Am I paid to screen for a study?

A: No, we do not pay for screening or for your travel expenses.

Q: Do I need a Social Security Number (SSN)?

A: Yes, payments are taxable income and a valid SSN is required. SSNs are screened for accuracy.

Q: Are taxes deducted from my payments?

A: No, taxes are not withheld from your payments. However, study payments in excess of $600 are reported to the IRS and you are responsible to report them as income. A Form 1090 will be mailed to you for amounts earned in excess of $600.

Q: Am I responsible for the cost of screening?

A: No, all screening costs are free.

Q: Is there a limit to how often I can be in a study?

A: Usually you cannot be in 2 different studies within 30 days; sometimes 60 days.

Q: Is parking available?

A: Yes, free parking is available at the back of our facility off Franklin Street.

Q: How do I get to BCRC?

A: A map and directions to BCRC are available on our home page. Just click on "Directions".

Q: Is transportation provided?

A: No, you are responsible for your own transportation.

Q: Is the internet available while at BCRC?

A: Yes, there is internet availability at BCRC through a secure, monitored wireless network.

Q: Are there laundry facilities at BCRC?

A: No, laundry services are not available for short studies. Limited laundry service is available for studies lasting longer than 2 weeks.

Q: Are subjects allowed to have visitors?

A: Visitation hours are at the discretion of BCRC staff and are limited. Visitors are only permitted in the main study room and are subject to being searched before admitted. Visitors who are uncooperative and fail to follow the directions of BCRC personnel will be asked to leave.
